Hospice Care
Hospice is specialized medical care for people, who can no longer be helped by curative treatment, and who are expected to live about six months or less if the illness runs its usual course. Patients, their families and doctors decide together when hospice care should begin.
Hospice services include medications, medical supplies and equipment to manage patients’ symptoms and promote comfort. Most hospice care in the United States is given in the home, with family members or friends serving as the main hands-on caregivers. Because of this, a patient getting home hospice care must have a caregiver in the home with them 24 hours a day. Hospice care is flexible and can be molded to fit the different needs and lifestyles of patients and their caregivers. Read more →
Hospice services can include:
- Medical and physical care for the patient
- Management of the best prescribed pain-control treatments
- Emotional and spiritual support for patients and their loved ones
- Assistance with practical issues for patients and caregivers
Palliative Care
Palliative Care or Comfort Care improves quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness. Our Team emphasizes holistic approach to care to ensure physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well being, by helping to prevent, relieve, or ease symptoms of disease or serious illness. Patients and their families benefit from our practical, emotional and spiritual comfort. Care can start soon after the diagnosis of an illness that causes distressing symptoms or repeated emergency room visits that can reduce quality of life.
Unlike hospice care, palliative care comes early in the course of illness, not just end-of-life. Patients can start or continue curative treatments to treat their health ailments. Our Team will discuss treatment options with patients and their families, giving them the information needed to make informed decisions about their treatment choices. Read more →
Grief/ Bereavement Counseling
Our Hospice Bereavement Program is available to all patients and families upon request. Our professional bereavement counselors and chaplains as well as trained volunteers will be there for support as the patient and his or her family move through the grief cycle. Because everyone’s religious, spiritual and emotional needs differ; the program will be tailored to meet those unique and specific needs.
The hospice care team will continue to work with surviving loved ones to help them through the grieving process after the illness run its course, by offering support to survivors through visits and phone calls as well as through support groups. We can also refer family members and care-giving friends to other medical or professional care if needed. Bereavement services are often provided for about a year after the patient’s death.
